Update on my mum

 

 

 

This will be a quick post. I'm in school (and on a teacher's laptop).

 

My mum's doing pretty good. Working an awesomely styled braid out everyday. On some days, she decides to rock a twist out and has me twist her hair up for her (I'm like her personal stylist :) ).

 

She's using sating scarves when she sleeps now, deep conditioning weekly, and she's doing a pretty good job.

 

So proud of her! :)

Oh my....my....yesterday!

SO..... I was at a supermarket yesterday when a lady called my mum and I over to part of an aisle right opposite the foil papers and cling films (which my mum wanted to buy). She started talking about some new and "VERY" good product Dark&Lovely has started selling. She said, "it will make your hair grow long and strong, manageable, it will give your hair a very good texture......." then she picked up a box of relaxer and said, "this is the product." Lord have mercy on us! My mum and I laughed. Then I just kept on grinning while my mum did the talking, "um....she's natural," she said, "and she's convinced me to go natural and there's no way you can convince her to purchase your product." The lady was like, "she's natural and you're going natural," my mum was like "yes" and she was like, "and you like your hair like that?" the look on her face was a cross between slightly bothered and slightly disgusted. My mum went on to say, "your relaxers have damaged my hair before and....." The lady then went on to pick up another product, she was like, "we have something a natural like you could use," my mum warned her, "she's very particular about the ingredients in products," the lady gave me the product with all confidence and was like "check it." As I looked, I kept shaking my head and saying, "no," "no," "no," as I crossed so many terrible ingredients. The lady looked a tad bit bothered. I asked, "do you by any chance have the Dark & Lovely Au Naturale products" she was like, "what?" I repeated, "Dark & Lovely Au Naturale" she was like, "what is that?" I was like, "the new product line Dark & Lovely is selling, the one they just launched recently" and she was like, "I've never heard of it," I stared at the "Dark & Lovely" t-shirt she was wearing.....a D&L worker that doesn't even know the products her company sells.
ANYWAYS.....
THAT WAS A F.U.N EXPERIENCE! Bad humour, I know, anyways.....

2 YEARS NATURAL

YO!

Haha! Oh my days, it's been two years now since I decided I was going and staying natural. I'm so happy!! :)

Wanna know what I'm going to do for my hair this year? Invest in some hair shears! hah. I really need to. i've got to pamper this baby!

Since i started transitioning, my curls have gotten smaller and smaller and my shrinkage is like SO BAD! I have curls that are all type 4s now. They're pretty cool. Some are in spirals, some in s-shapes and some in z-shapes, some even have all the different curl shapes in them. Cool!

My hair feels good and soft and like, I love it. I have got to treat my hair to an Avocado DC soon, though or i might just opt for a palm oil DC, but that's so hard  to wash out. It works wonders, but that washing process is just my problem. I'm also planning on quitting swimming to prevent a drying effect on my hair and I'm trying to be less stressed and to eat and sleep better all for my hair. I'm back on taking vitamins and i might just go back to biotin and stuff, dunno, maybe not now. Y'all still remember  my goal: BSL by June (or as close as possible to BSL. Maybe APL).

I have some good news! My mum's transitioning! She has about 4 months of new growth! She's transitioning with twists (with extension). She's taken down the old ones and gotten new ones installed. She's keeping them in till Feb or Mar, not sure. Here's more good news: if you remember what happened around this time last year, you'll remember that.....my birthday's next Wednesday. Woohoo! and here's a little more good news. Wait for it, wait for it...... SAMMYWITHTHEBIGHAIR IS OFFICIALLY 1 YEAR OLD! How time flies! I didn't even realise!

p.s I'm thinking of making a letters to my mum section of this blog. It will totally be controlled by you guys. Y'all will go over to the contacts tab above and send me an email addressed to 'Sammy's Mum' in that email, you will talk about how amazing natural hair is and you'll give her tips and trick on natural hair and hair style idea, both formal and casual, pictures and vids are allowed. All what you send will be put up in that section and if you wish to remain anonymous, that's fine. We need to convince her not to go back to the relaxers.
I was going to write a book. You know, one of those 2 sided books. One side would've been called, 'SammyWithTheBigHair: My journey and the A-Zs of curly hair' and the other side would've been called, 'Stubborn Like My Mother: how to care for your relaxed hair,' Now that mater's going natural, I guess I'll just call that side, "Stubborn Like My Mother Used To Be" :)

My Dilemma x_X

This sucks.

Okay! so I needed to braid my hair because I didn't really like having to manipulate/touch/style it daily. So, because I couldn't go to the hair salon where I like getting my hair braided (there's a lady there that actually listens to me when I talk about how I comb my hair and so on), well, my mum had to braid my hair for me. I was going to wait till I could get to the salon, but like my dad was getting upset because I had to detangle my hair, comb it, when it's humid, it get's huge and he doesn't like me having a scarf on everyday. So, today, I combed my hair out then tied a scarf round my head and pushed it up so it was like a head band. My hair was alright, but then my mum was like, "I'm going to braid your hair," my dad was like, "yes," agreeing with her. Both of them don't know jack about hair! My parents think CG is gross, my dad called me a 'dirty girl' and some hurtful things because I went CG. My parents believe that deep conditioning is like feeding your hair, it's nonsense and there's no point to it (they also think it'll make your hair fall out. Another thing is, my parents don't believe in detangling your hair from the ends up to the roots.


Now, that's what I have to talk about. MY DILEMMA. My mum told me to shut up, smacked my hand with a comb and so on because I told her not to comb my hair from the roots down to the ends. That's not the only problem, my mum combed my hair with a rat tail comb! Yes! a rat tail comb! When she was getting my hair done, I gave her a comb, you know the kind with like three rat tail thingies at the end, a wide tooth side and a not so wide toothed other side. Okay! so she was like, "do you still have the blue comb (rat tail) that you lent your dad yesterday?" I said, "yes" and she was like, "can I have it." (not a question). I gave it to her and yup! you can guess what she did. She combed my big hair, not in sections, I might add with a rat tail comb and she combed it from the roots to the ends. I was in pain and she didn't care. She was like, "I warned you when you said you wanted to start this natural hair thing," and she was also like, "I can't believe I'm touching your hair. This hair that you don't wash!" I was like, "I wash it, but I only wash it with shampoo once a month." She did not care. She still called it gross. So...I managed to keep some of the hair lost before my mum was finished braiding a quarter of my hair. I'm going to take a pic and put it up here.*sigh* I hate having to go through this. I've lost so much hair. I'll add that I also do not like how she flat braided my hair. It's terrible, hideous, tight (and hurts, I can't move my head fully), who thinks of doing such a thing to someone's hair? *sigh*

(most of the straight bits here or the ones with like super tiny curls in them are relaxed hair (I have/had about a little less than an inch of relaxed hair at some of my ends)

*sigh*

If this has ever happened to you, just know, you are not alone. It still upsets me, how much hair I've lost. When mum was finally done, there was hair on the floor, hair on the pillow I was sitting on, hair all over my shirt (and some on my shorts), hair on the chair she was sitting on and well...the obvious...hair in the comb. x_X

And this is..... my dilemma.
